The reason, the name Dango comes from the similarity of traditional Japanese dumplings, along with the pure water used to make cakes from the Mitarashi River. In mid-autumn, under the full moon, the Japanese celebrate the harvest and express thanks the moon god, and this festival is called Tsukimi, which mean ‘’moon viewing’’. On this day, the Japanese display Tsukimi Dango by stacking cakes in a special pyramid arrangement with the top pointing towards the moon. It was said that eating the dango would bring the consumer wealth, luck, and happiness.
